Motlop offered one-match ban

Published: 15/02/2010 by Ben Broad

Motlop is staring at a one-match ban, but risks two weeks if he fights the charge at the tribunal and loses. Fortunately for Motlop, whatever suspension he might incur can be served while Port Adelaide is still playing in the pre-season competition. The AFL's match review panel charged Motlop with a level one rough conduct offence for his tackle on Crow Michael Doughty during Saturday's 56-point victory at AAMI Stadium. His existing record means he'll have to challenge the penalty to be available for the Power's second-round NAB Cup fixture - against the West Coast Eagles at Subiaco on February 27. Motlop already has 93.75 carry-over points remaining from the past 12 months. The new charge - which carries 125 points - increases his total to 218.75 points and a two-game ban. An early guilty plea will reduce his sentence by 25 per cent and see him miss just one match. Motlop was the only player charged from the weekend's four matches. The match review panel looked at incidents involving Essendon's Kyle Reimers, Adelaide's Jared Petrenko, Hawk Luke Hodge and Bulldog Ben Hudson but decided no further action was necessary
