The Cut Golf Course is a test of another type. The true Links layout is an examination of a dune landscape, coastal winds and the challenger's imagination. The Cut provides an opportunity to experience golf in its original environment. The cleverly blended design both meets the demands of the modern game whilst presenting an experience akin to that of golfing legends from previous centuries. Immaculate in its presentation, the playing surfaces are second to none. Lush fairways, pure greens and multiple teeing positions, present opportunity for players of all ability to truly test their game. Beware the winds as you negotiate the dune landscape. Keep the ball down and play the undulations where you can. You do not need to be long off the tee to tame this course. A well placed iron, in many instances, will run past a towering drive. Consider the punishing dune vegetation that beckons the errant tee shot and a game plan starts to emerge. The clockwise outward nine leads you Northward atop of the dune. Breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean can distract from the task at hand as you negotiate the opening holes before heading East towards the Port Bouvard Cut and the holes which carve through the dune valley back to the majestic clubhouse. The inward nine leads you South, back down the coast via some of the most spectacular holes in Australia. The ever changing elements ensure that this course constantly provides a new challenge and an unforgettable experience. The rolling dunes and rugged coastline evoke the spirit of classic layouts such as Irelands Ballybunion and the infamous Pebble Beach. It is not hard to imagine greats such as Tom Morris and Bobby Jones walking these fairways. Opened in 2005 James Wilcher's layout has quickly established itself as a "must play" course for golfers visiting W.A. and locals alike, with many taking advantage of the onsite luxury accommodation before taking to the course for a "second attempt". How ever you choose to play The Cut, be certain that you experience this new "classic". Signature Hole The12th 400 Metres Par 4 Enough of the easy holes! You might just have to hope that when you arrive at this elevated tee, perched literally on top of the beach, the wind is blowing in a favourable direction, or not at all. As one of the most exposed holes on the Australian coast the 12th is never likely to be a pushover. The fairway meanders between some ruggedly wild sand dunes, which dictate the line of play from the tee. Anything other than an accurate tee shot will not be good enough if par is to be challenged. From the landing area some 15 metres below the tee elevation the fairway rises again to a green literally parked on the beach to which a fairway wood or long-iron will be needed. Once on the green the distraction of the crashing waves nearby might be the biggest challenge en-route to the hole. Par will be a welcome score on a hole that will become synonymous with golf at The Cut.
